Setup on an iPhone or iPad

The secure operation of the email client that is preinstalled on your mobile device can only be guaranteed if the version of the operating system on your device is iOS 3 or higher. If the version of your operating system is iOS 2 or lower, then using the preinstalled email client on your device is not secure. We recommend that you update your iOS to a higher version.

Set up using IMAP

1. Open the standard Mail application on your iPhone or iPad.

2. Choose “Other”.

3. Fill out the fields:

Name  The name that will be displayed in the “From:” field on all sent messages
Email  Your email address following the example@site.com format
Password  The current password for your email
Description  The name for the account you are creating

4. Tap on “Next”. The mailbox will automatically begin setting up.

5. On the screen that appears, tap on “Save”.

After adding your email account, you need to configure additional settings.

6. Go to “Settings” → “Password & Accounts” and open the account that you just added.

7. Start editing your account.

8. Tap on “SMTP” under “Outgoing Mail Server”.

9. Start editing the primary server.

10. Fill out the fields:

Host Name smtp.mail.ru
Use SSL Toggle the switch to turn the option on
Server Port 465

11. Tap on “Done”.

12. Go back to the “Account” menu and go to the “Advanced” section.

13. Find the “Incoming Settings” section and make sure that the “Use SSL” option is turned on and that the server port is 993.

Set up using POP3

1. Open the standard Mail application on your iPhone or iPad.

2. Choose “Other”.

3. Fill out the fields:

Name  The name that will be displayed in the “From:” field on all sent messages
Email  Your email address following the example@site.com format
Password  Enter the wrong password. You need to do this so that the client does not automatically set up using IMAP
Description  The name for the account you are creating

4. An error message will appear. Tap on “Next”.

5. Go to the “POP” tab.

6. Edit the following information:

Host Name under the section Incoming Mail Server pop.mail.ru
Password under the sections Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server The correct password for your email

7. Tap on “Save”.

After adding your email account, you need to configure additional settings.

8. Go to “Settings” → “Password & Accounts” and open the account that you just added.

8. Tap on “SMTP” under “Outgoing Mail Server”.

9. Start editing the primary server.

10. Fill out the fields:

Host Name smtp.mail.ru
Use SSL Toggle the switch to turn the option on
Server Port 465

11. Tap on “Done”.

12. Go back to the previous screen and go to the “Advanced” section.

13. Find the “Incoming Settings” section and make sure that the “Use SSL” option is turned on and that the server port is 995.

Changing settings for SSL

1. Go to “Settings” → “Password & Accounts” and open the account that you just added.

2. Find the “Host Name” field under the “Incoming Mail Server” section.

If pop.mail.ru is shown, then refer to the setup for POP3. If imap.mail.ru is shown, then refer to the setup for IMAP.

For email clients set up using POP3

1. Tap on “SMTP” under “Outgoing Mail Server”.

2. Start editing the primary server.

3. Fill out the fields:

Host Name smtp.mail.ru
Use SSL Toggle the switch to turn the option on
Server Port 465

4. Tap on “Done”.

5. Go back to the previous screen and go to the “Advanced” section.

6. Make the following changes:

Use SSL Toggle the switch to turn the option on
Server Port 995

For email clients set up using IMAP

1. Tap on “SMTP” under “Outgoing Mail Server”.

2. Start editing the primary server.

3. Make the following changes:

Use SSL Toggle the switch to turn the option on
Server Port 465

4. Tap on “Done”.

If the above parameters are already set up in your email client, then you do not need to make any changes.
